Find the Way (Jun 16)

This past week, I’ve been working on setting up my computer network in the new building at work.  The biggest part of the job is getting it setup so that my systems will be able to talk to other systems throughout the company…all around the world.  As I worked through various connectivity issues and getting all of the routes in place, there were many different hurdles to overcome.  But most of it came down to making sure that the right path was laid out.  What systems do I have to go through in order to get to Boston’s systems?

It strikes me that we may also struggle to find our own path to the heart of God.

John 14:1-11
Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know. Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way? Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him. Philip saith unto him, Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us. Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father? Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works. Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works' sake.

Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.  No one comes to the Father, but by Him.  He is our way.  He is our path.  He is route to the Father, to righteousness, and to everlasting life.

Also, once I got basic connectivity between office locations, I needed to bring up the main server at the new site.  This is the computer that controls everything and authorizes people to do stuff and access stuff.  These servers need to be authorized by the main server at headquarters.  Even though I could “see” everything all over the network, my system would not communicate fully with the server in authority.  Even though my systems could see everything throughout the organization, nothing would possibly work right until it had received commission from the true authority.
Likewise, even when we see the right order and see God and the path through Christ, we must submit to God and receive our commission from the ultimate authority.  Also, we have no authority to instruct others and spread the Word of God to others, if we have not first come under the headship of Christ.  Unless it is authentic, our witness has no authority.

Matthew 28:16-20
Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them. And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted. And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
